Shopify Adds Stripe As Payment Gateway App for Subscription

January 17, 2022

Subscription Apps enable programmers, business owners, and developers to build subscription experiences directly into the checkout process. By leveraging the power of subscription APIs, merchants can sell services and goods in numerous ways. Shopify has curated several tutorials and docs that one can utilize to familiarize themselves with all concepts of subscription apps creation procedure from start to finish. The steps are divided into three categories: explore, build and launch. The latest addition to the payment gateway for subscriptions is Stripe. This prominent payment gateway allows you to accept money from international and local customers. It has multiple in-built features, making it a suitable player gateway app for all businesses. From January 17, 2022, Merchants who have Stripe on their Shopify Checkout can start using the Subscription API.

Shopify Will Charge Regulatory Operating Fee to Accommodate DST Rates

Shopify has recently updated their PPA and API terms to pave the way for a future for the eCommerce platform and to encourage the growth of both Shopify partners and developers. The new updates will not compromise the integrity and security of products or services offered by the platform. One such update is the addition of Regulatory Operating Fee. Some countries charge a DST or Digital Service Tax on products/services that are sold digitally. The percentage of DST varies from country to country. Shopify’s new Regulatory Operating Fee will be charged on public app and theme sales to accommodate the DST charged in those particular countries. Merchants can see the Regulatory Operating Fee applied on their app and theme sales in the Partner payout CSV or in the Partner Dashboard.

Release of Custom and Standard Product Types

The year 2022 is a massive year for Shopify. Numerous changes are scheduled to take place in the upcoming month. The 2022-01 version of this eCommerce platform's API will include many advanced features. One such feature is the introduction of two unique fields to the Product Object to GraphQL Admin API. The standardizedProductType and customProductType are expected to ease merchants' burden by decreasing the number of tasks they have to perform. Furthermore, it's interesting to note that the standardizedProductType is a brand new data primitive connecting products to the Shopify Product Taxonomy. It is currently utilized to determine the product eligibility for the Shopify app and as a part of Shopify's BFCM Notebook. The eCommerce platform confirms that there is much in-store for standardizedProductType in the future.

Shopify updated its revenue share plan in 2021, giving partners more flexibility on payout methods and access to more regions. They have integrated with Hyperwallet to introduce easy payout options through Partner Dashboard, ensuring more incoming partnerships. The partners get more control over their earnings through the region-based flexible payout methods. The choice to give partners 100 % of their revenue on the first $1 million earning per year presents them with preferential industry-leading pricing and fees. They get an expanding regional and international coverage which PayPal earlier limited.

Shopify has updated a new feature where merchants can update shipping labels in bulk for multiple orders at once. They can modify the weight, shipping methods, package type, and service for several orders in bulk even before purchasing shipping labels. They can also buy and print up to 50 shipping labels at a time from the Orders page in the Shopify admin in the US. The purchase and review can be made for multiple labels in one centralized view, enabling buyers to get an overview and make necessary tweaks before purchasing. Sellers get to edit multiple shipping labels simultaneously from a desktop and individually from a mobile device. They have access to remove a label from bulk purchases. A warning would be issued to alert the trader if an issue crops up during the editing, purchasing, or printing process.

Suppliers can now add the all-new ordering widget or button to their Shopify store to promote their profile on the Handshake marketplace. It is a dynamic component that displays a Handshake branded image with a Shop Wholesale button that directs customers to the supplier's profile on the Handshake marketplace. Retailers get free shipping and $50 off on > $200 spends when they place orders using the supplier widget or button for the very first time. After the order is fulfilled and if the retailers are using Shopify Payments, Handshake reimburses the $50 discount and up to $75 of the shipping fee. Merchants can add the widget to their online store's page without editing any code. They need to manually edit the store's code to add the widget to another place than a page. To customize the widget or button, they can edit its code.

Shopify has done this by partnering with Hyperwallet, which offers to bring more flexibility in payout options for partners. This may include local bank transfers, wire transfers, and other payout methods, other than PayPal. Plus, Shopify is looking to make it even easier and better to become a partner. The new payment methods offer every payee the advantage of accepting payments as per their convenience.

Shopify Launches the Global Enterprise Resource Planning Partner Program

Shopify has announced the Shopify Global ERP Partner Program with their first five flagship enterprise resource planning (ERP) partners. The program should help to solve merchant pain points, such as, integration costs, timely setup, and privacy concerns. This new program should make it easier for the partners to pitch Shopify Plus to large enterprise businesses with existing ERPs in their business model. The program opens up more opportunities to work closer with global partners. Plus, Shopify is all set to introduce new payout options to improve the way they pay their entities in their ecosystem. The new Payouts system will subject the partners to less fees, and will be available in more regions and currencies. The staggered rollout will start from November 2021.
