Shopify Capital Launches in Australia to Support Business Growth
October 25, 2022
Shopify Capital, launched in 2016, funded businesses across the US, Canada, and the UK, with over $3.8 billion USD disbursed to tens of thousands of entrepreneurs. It has been extended to the merchants in Australia to prepare for the peak season sales that are coming up. It is also an intelligent move from Shopify to expand its market in Australia. Launching Shopify Capital presents Australian businesses with a greater scope to build their brand both in their country and internationally. Unlike traditional financing, Shopify Capital does not need a lengthy and complex application process. The process also avoids personal credit checks, taking equity in the business, or asking merchants for cash flow projections. Merchants can receive up to $2.5 million AUD through their Shopify store in as little as two business days to support their enterprise.
Shopify Prepares to Connect With Creators Through Shopify Collabs
October 12, 2022
Shopify's new launch lets millions of creators partner with Shopify merchants to sell the products of interest through their socials and share profit. Shopify extends its integrations into social platforms by launching Linkpop, Starter plan, and, recently, Collabs. The platform aims to give creators economic independence by partnering with independent brands. Only 4% of creators make full-time content from an estimated $100B worth of creator economy. Shopify merchants get a new sales and marketing channel to find an unexplored customer base as they eagerly follow the influencers for recommendations. Creators can apply for a Collabs account and find merchants that align with their interests. They can then partner with the sellers and market the products through their pages. The creator gets a share of payment for every sale through their medium.

The tool also has multiple Discount Combinations that allow for creating custom bulk discounts.

Shopify is Gearing Up to Lay Off 10% of its Workforce
August 3, 2022
Shopify announced that it is laying off 10% of its current workforce. The company stated that it had misjudged the market trends and hired too many employees. A letter published on the company’s website says that they had rapidly employed during the pandemic to accommodate an increased eCommerce shopping trend which later failed to materialize. They had anticipated the Covid-era hike in ecommerce trends to continue and expected a heightened adoption of online shopping. The departments that face majority cuts would be recruitment, support roles, and sales. The company is also cutting down on over-specialized and duplicate positions. The load shedding also involves the group of employees hired for convenience but not actively engaged in product building. Reports say that the laid-off employees received a good severance package.
Shopify Scales Creator Economy With New YouTube Partnership
July 25, 2022
With a new partnership with YouTube Shopping, users globally can upload their Shopify store to YouTube. Content creators can bring their brands and storefront to YouTube and create communities to encourage users to shop from them. Independent brands based on the creator economy get a boost in the D2C commerce segment on YouTube. This partnership is a game changer in encouraging multichannel commerce that helps merchants track performance, stock, and sales metrics. With more customers shifting to YouTube for shopping advice and purchases, this is a smart move from both platforms. Consumers can purchase as they watch a video. Merchants can sell in three ways: live streams so that their viewers can check out while they watch, on-demand videos, and through a store tab that links to the entire product range.
