The prior requirement of the PHP version for WooCommerce was set as 7.0. A considerably longer duration has passed since the eCommerce platform updated the minimum requirement. However, with the release of WooCommerce 6.5, it is decided that the minimum PHP requirement will boost to 7.2 and higher versions. The PHP ecosystem is progressing rapidly, meaning the release of newer versions and the older versions are discarded. For instance, PHP 7.3 was unsupported in December 2021, and PHP 7.4 entered the security fixes only mode. Generally, WordPress recommends having a minimal PHP 7.4 version for stable reasons and better security. Moreover, the third-party apps integrated or utilized by WooCommerce are also dropping the older PHP versions, causing issues. Thus, making it an absolute necessity to upgrade the minimal PHP requirement.
PHP 7.2+ is the Latest Requirement for WooCommerce 6.5
