Shopify dips its foot into the climate change arena in an ethical and eco-friendly move. Through Frontier, a committee co-founded with Stripe, Alphabet, Meta, and McKinsey Sustainability, the platform has backed six companies by investing $11 million to support carbon removal technologies. The companies are Arbor, Captura, Carbon To Stone, Cella, CREW, and Inplanet. The committee plans to spend $925 million on technologies to aid permanent carbon removal by 2030. Shopify’s Sustainability Fund has been in the works since 2019 and has helped various companies raise over $50 million, increased employee count by 5x, and expanded their carbon removal capabilities 1000x. The Sustainability Find has added nine new businesses to its portfolio, and Shopify currently backs 28 enterprises to reverse the climatic change.
