Microsoft announced on June 4th that they would acquire the leading developer platform GitHub for US$7.5 billion in company stock. This is subject to closing conditions and completion of regulatory review. Jack Germain reports that the acquisition is expected to complete by the end of the calendar year. GitHub is one of the largest computer code repositories in the world. More than 28 million developers collaborate and distribute projects through this platform. After the acquisition, Nat Friedman will be appointed as the CEO of GitHub. He will report to Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President of Microsoft Cloud, and AI Group.
