A global supply chain solution provider approached Virtina with a challenging project. The brand’s strength ranges from component sourcing and distribution to state of the art asset recovery and aftermarket services and processes.
The client supports customers across all industries, from a data center, server rooms, educational systems, government contractors, as well as many other niche markets. The client is well known for providing unique solutions for any equipment you need to retire or refresh in your company.
The client recently had their website done in WordPress. Since then, they started using WooCommerce for their search feature. Beyond this, they used it to display the part numbers of the components they were selling in tables.
The main issues they had were that the data inside the tables were quite large & due to that, it slows everything down. That too, when they only had a fraction of the components listed. The client was hoping to find a way to load/compress data inside the tables, so it does not slow down and works properly.
At the time of contact, they had around 9000 items listed within the tables & were looking to scale this to around 500k. Their main goal was to have a feature, as per which whenever someone searches for a part or component, it’ll load the data, plus say it’s available & that they’ll get a quote in 24 hours.
The client listed their components on different platforms, due to which any time someone searches for a component, it drives traffic to their site. On the website, they wanted the customer to be able to search for that same component and then submit an RFQ.
As a long term goal, the client wished that that data would help with their SEO plan. But short term, they wanted their customers to be able to type any part on the website and have it come up. The main objective is to create the least amount of friction in the sales process.
In other words, drive traffic to the website, keep them on the site (retention), and then convert the visitors. Having a slow search was not going to help this process. The Woo experts at Virtina fully realized the severity of the problem.
We attributed the slowness of the current products page to the code or method used to display the table. As such, it was loading all the products on the loading page. We were able to speed up the page by loading only the products needed to be displayed.
As a result of the work done, the client ended up with an eCommerce site that allowed its visitors to search for the correct component, and arrive at it swiftly. Once implemented, the client witnessed a high-speed website, without any lag or delay in searching.
